Prayer for Pope Benedict XVI

The Catholic pope, though perhaps not head of your particular Christian faith, has a tremendous influence in the world and represents all Christians (to some extent) to many people around the world. To pray for this world religious leader is to pray for all of Christianity, since what he says and does can and does impact all Christians. This prayer is modified from the prayer on the Vatican's web site after the pope's election.

Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to Your shepherd Benedict 16th a spirit of courage and right judgment, a spirit of knowledge and love. By governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care, may he, as successor to the Apostle Peter and Vicar of Christ, build Your Church into a sacrament of unity, love and peace for the entire world. I ask this of You, Lord God, our creator, friend and overseer of this world.
