Apostles' Creed
I
believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in
Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy
Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was
crucified, died and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day, He
rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is
seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the
living and the dead.
I
believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen
Many faiths subscribe to the Apostles' Creed. For an
interesting history of this prayer and its origin, please see:

NOTES:
1. In this prayer, "Catholic Church" is referring to
the entire body of Christ's Church, regardless of any particular Christian
faith. It does not refer to the Roman Catholic Church. The word "Catholic" means
"universal".
2. In the phrase "He descended to the dead", in some
versions of the Creed, it says "He descended to hell." In either sense, it does
not mean that Jesus went to the Hell of damnation and fire that is spoken of in
the Bible. Remember, that until Christ died for us and was resurrected, souls
who had previously passed over were admitted into heaven. Thus, Christ went to a
place where the dead, who had previously passed, resided.
